Nearco Sant’Antimo D.O.C. 75cl (2006) COL D’ORCIA
£21.65 per bottle
Cold’Orcia’s denomination “Sant’Antimo” is exclusive to wines vinified from grapes grown only in the area of Montalcino, further enriching its already prestigious status. On the gentle southern hillsides of Montalcino, embedded in the middle of austere Brunello vineyards, one can find the plots dedicated to the great international varieties that made Tuscan reds so famous. Real “cru”, where Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah have found ideal growing conditions to express their celebrated class at its best. The Nearco is a new wine of great impact and structure, where the softness of the Merlot is married perfectly with the power of the Cabernet and the spicy fruit of the Syrah. In production the 3 varieties are fermented seperately and then go through 18 months ageing partly in Allier oak barrels and partly in Troncais oak barrels, later to be reunited in barrels for a further 6 months. Once bottled the wine ages for at least another year before being released to the market. The result is a wine with a very intense colour, with brilliant violet hues, and with a bouquet that charms for its complexity: although a careful tasting will lead to detection of the blend, not one predominates over the other. The tannic structure of the Cabernet is wrapped in the intriguing fruit of Merlot and Syrah whose spices are well integrated with the woody barrique notes, leading to an unforgettable aftertaste. The Nearco is best decanted prior to serving.
