Brunello Di Montalcino D.O.C.G. 75cl (2016) COL D’ORCIA
£34.55 per bottle
Col d’Orcia is a traditional producer of Brunello di Montalcino, who decided to continue using large Slavonian oak barrels many years ago, well before the debate between modernist and traditionalist producers even started. Still today, Col d’Orcia age their Brunello di Montalcino for a minimum of 3 years in large oak barrels before bottling, storing the bottles in the cellar for at least 1 year before releasing the wine to the market. This 2012 vintage had a smaller yield due to the dryer spring and summer weather, although the wetter autumn meant that balance was restored in the Sangiovese grapes. The resulting wine has a ruby red colour with violet hues, with an intense, ample and lasting bouquet; the typical notes of ripe red berry fruits are well balanced with the spice from the oak. In the mouth it is well-structured and complex with soft ripe tannins. Long, sapid and pleasant finish.
