Col d’Orcia is a traditional producer of Brunello di Montalcino, who decided to continue using large Slavonian oak barrels many years ago, well before the debate between modernist and traditionalist producers even started. Still today, Col d’Orcia age their Brunello di Montalcino for a minimum of 3 years in large oak barrels before bottling, storing the bottles in the cellar for at least 1 year before releasing the wine to the market. The year 2010 was made up of optimal climate conditions, and the maturation of the grapes evolved perfectly. The result is a ruby colour wine with violet hues, an intense, full-bodied and elegant bouquet with fruity notes of ripe blackberry and raspberry (typical of Sangiovese). Well-balanced between the varietals characteristics and the woody notes originating from the long ageing in the barrels, the palate is highly structured, full and persistent. The ripe soft tannins are perfectly balanced with acidity, and the finish is long, pleasant and sapid.
